Bichectomy, which has become one of the most demanded aesthetic operations for my patients in recent years, is also known as “cheek reduction surgery”.
The shape and volume of the structures connected to the cheek muscle called “Bichat’s fat pads” (buccal fat pads) and directly “buccinator” on the cheeks differ in each person. The chubby cheeks, which seem very cute to us at young ages, may start to create aesthetic concern in the future.
The volume of the fat pads on some people’s cheeks has shrunk to an ideal degree over time, while the volume of the fat pads in some people can be maintained or their fat rate may increase due to genetic factors, advancing age and weight changes. Therefore, the faces of people with more prominent Bichat’s fat pads look more chubby and the contours of their facial features lose their clarity.
Bichectomy can be applied to adults who are disturbed by their chubby cheeks and whose general health status does not constitute an obstacle for the operation and whose facial features will not change. Bichectomy, which is performed under local or general anesthesia should be planned individually like all other aesthetic operations. Cheek reduction surgery, which makes the cheekbones evident and the face look thinner but also stronger, is considered to be a very safe and effective method.
During the cheek reduction surgery performed through a small incision opened through the mouth, a part of the adipose tissue on the cheeks (how much adipose tissue will be removed is determined specific to patients) is removed. Since the procedure is carried out through the mouth, there is no such thing as a scar on the cheeks after the operation. The healing process after the cheek reduction surgery, which is completed in as little as 30 minutes, varies according to the skin structure of the person, but the results may take a few weeks to appear.
The main purpose of cheek reduction surgery is to bring the face shape closer to the V form. Therefore, the face of the person looks younger than ever since the cheeks are reduced after the bichectomy specially planned for the patients.
Facial asymmetry and thus the general appearance of the face improves after bichectomy, which makes the cheekbones evident and the chin look more naive.
One of the most important advantages of cheek reduction surgery is that the cheeks and its surroundings can be permanently shaped.
The healing process after bichectomy performed by making 1-centimeter incisions through the mouth is quite short and comfortable.
